Greetings from Starcastle!
Time for an update! Work continues on the archive release we hope that the final result will be worth the wait. Scott McKenzie added new drums tracks on an unreleased instrumental song “The Dash” which will be included that features amazing bass work by Gary and Scott McKenzie on drums. George Harp is adding vocals to one of the songs which will offer a pleasant surprise.
Also Scott McKenzie uncovered a VHS tape of one of our first performances in San Francisco which will be released at the same time on DVD. All of this the DVD and CD material was written by and performed by the California lineup - Strater, Botts, Harp & McKenzie, some of which was reworked on “Song of Times”, but will be presented here in their original form.
Ed Unitsky has once again created some incredible artwork for the new CD and we could not be happier with the result. Thanks to everyone.
More photos to come .......
Bruce Botts - Scott McKenzie - George Harp - Gary Strater
A wealth of previously unreleased Starcastle material written and performed in California during the 80’s by Gary Strater, George Harp, Bruce Botts and Scott McKenzie will be released on a new CD in early 2011. The new CD, now in production, is a collection of songs taken from studio demo tapes, live shows and rehearsals performed in the original three piece format.
The Starcastle California lineup created many new songs and this CD showcases never-before-heard versions of six songs previously released on “Song of Times” but as they were originally performed - Red Season, Master Machine, Islands, Children Believe, Faces of Change and Babylon. The new CD also contains several other unreleased songs written and performed during the same time period.
These songs received extensive airplay on the West Coast and in Europe and drew the attention of Bill Graham as well as U.S. and European record labels. Look for more announcements about the Starcastle California material soon. Also check back to see many new photos just uncovered from that time period.
This CD is dedicated to Gary Strater, our great friend and bandmate, and these songs bring back the memories of the times we all shared with him. Many thanks to all of you for your continued support and good wishes for Starcastle.
